Plenary Speeches
Plenary 1: Gert Zülch, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie

Status and Development Trends of Human-centred Simulation Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gert Zülch, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology | Quelle: Ⓒ Gert Zülch

Human-centred simulation activities carried out in Germany are based on publications from the 1980s. Twenty years later, the VDI
(Association of German Engineers) published a new part for one of its guidelines providing a summary of the status of development,
and grouping the different methods into human-integrated and human-centred simulators. This article deals mainly with
the further developments of the second group of methods. The most significant aspect is the detailed modelling of personnel
qualifications. Other aspects cover the modelling of attendance times of staff and the resulting implications, short-term effects
of learning and unlearning, physiological and psychological work stress on the staff as a result of the work situation, and the
decision modelling for the allocation of staff or other operational decisions.

Plenary 2: Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann, MIRALab

Modelling and Manipulating Virtual Objects Prof. Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann, MIRALab, Centre Universitaire d’Informatique, Université de Genève | Quelle: Ⓒ Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann

The actions of modelling and manipulating virtual objects in three-dimensional environments are required for a number of
applications in the virtual prototyping process for industrial production as well as in the movie and entertainment business. The
research and development of interactive systems enabling such operations focus on reproducing the visual appearance, dynamic
behaviour and contact response of the simulated objects. This paper presents two application examples of interactive manipulation
frameworks which have been respectively designed for the interaction with virtual hair and virtual textiles.

Speech of the Day: Klaus Dehner, Institut für Biologik
Thursday 07.10.2010 19:00–19:45 German |
The Evolution of Personnel Management Dr. Klaus Dehner Institut für Biologik der Führung und Fortbildung Assertive male senior managers are the classic embodiment of leadership. They work towards the global objective with great vigour, they take clear-cut decisions based on facts and figures, and they lead with a firm hand. Nature, however, shows a totally different characteristic of successful leadership: With wolves, the most socially intelligent animals hold the alpha positions. With lions and chimpanzees, the abilities to settle disputes, instil motivation and organise group activities are valued as supreme qualities. It is obvious that, first and foremost, alpha animals are good relationship managers. Only if you are able to establish robust relationships will you then manage to generate genuine added value together with your team through joint action. |

Plenary 3: Eberhard Haller, Daimler AG

Planning of new Production Systems with Tools of the Digital Factory Prof. Dr. Eberhard Haller, Daimler AG |

The use of digital tools at product and process development in the automotive industry gained significant relevance in the last 10
years. At the beginning were numerous digital solutions for specific single applications, all of them with increasing performance.
Out of this has been developed an integrated digital planning toolbox which is based on common product data and standardized
modules. One of the advantages of the digital factory lies in the ability to do detailed simulations before product and processes
are turned into real hardware. This leads to an increase in competitive advantage. This presentation will highlight the opportunities
that the digital factory is offering.
